  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk (room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (or more if needed)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 batch cream cheese frosting

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease two 9-inch cake pans.
2️⃣ In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, sugar, oil, vanilla, and red food coloring.
3️⃣ In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt, and cocoa powder.
4️⃣ Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix gently. Don’t overmix!
5️⃣ In a small bowl, mix apple cider vinegar and baking soda—it will foam up! Fold this into the batter.
6️⃣ Divide the batter evenly into the cake pans and bake for 25-26 minutes.
