Ingredients
For the Hamburger Steaks:
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 ½ cups saltine crackers, crumbled (about 1 sleeve)
- 1 cup milk
- ½–1 tsp Italian herbs
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
- Flour, for coating
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
For the Gravy:
- 1 ½ cups milk
- 2 (10.75 oz) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat & Prep – Set oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2️⃣ Make the Steaks – In a bowl, mix ground beef, saltine crackers, milk, Italian herbs, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Shape into ½-inch-thick patties and dredge in flour.
3️⃣ Brown the Steaks – Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties on both sides until golden brown (they don’t need to be fully cooked). Transfer to the baking dish.
4️⃣ Prepare the Gravy – Whisk together condensed mushroom soup and milk. Pour over the hamburger steaks, ensuring they are well covered.
5️⃣ Bake & Serve – Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes until fully cooked and the gravy is bubbling. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.
