  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp reserved maraschino cherry juice (plus more as needed)

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or use ungreased sheets.

2. Make the Cookie Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.

3. Shape Cookies:

  • Use a small cookie scoop or your hands to shape the dough into 24 1-inch balls. Place on prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each ball.
  • Use your finger to make a small indentation in each ball and place one maraschino cherry in each indentation.

4. Bake:

  • Bake cookies for 10-11 minutes, until set.
  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Make the Frosting:

  • In a small, heavy saucepan, melt chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
  • Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of reserved cherry juice. Add more cherry juice if needed to reach your desired consistency.

  • Drizzle frosting over cooled cookies or transfer it to a piping bag with a small tip for more precise decoration.
